The State Corporation Rosatom operates as a socially responsible company. Following the tradition that has formed in nuclear power industry Rosatom is consistently performing the charity function. Its main areas are as follows: supporting cultural projects related with the preservation of historical heritage objects ( 232.5 mln rubles in 2014); financing proposals within the framework of competitions between social and charity projects (117.5 mln rubles) and facilitating initiatives in education (93,8 mln rubles). Other projects, for example, protection of rare species, development of children and amateur sports, or promotion of healthy life styles, can also enjoy Rosatom’s financial support. Totally in 2014 Rosatom spent over 1 bln rubles for social and charity programs.
Moreover, Rosatom, that positions itself as the Corporation of knowledge, proactively supports different enlightenment initiatives such as contests, educational grants or programs of teachers’ professional development. In 2014 439 educational institutions from 22 Russian cities and towns received financial assistance within the framework of the project “Rosatom school”. In particular, the money was spent for advanced training of teachers and school managers, as well as for the newest equipment to be used in teaching science.
Every year Rosatom Community Board organizes an open grant competition between regional organizations. This is the way to support dozens of social and cultural initiatives, like the project “Rosatom Culture Territory”. Grant beneficiaries are different civil-society organizations, sports or patriotic clubs, educational centers or cultural institutions.
Rosatom organizations spend much money for the improvement of urban infrastructure in their location places. They invest into constructing new sports facilities and churches as well as into the renovation of old ones. Funds are also allocated for municipal multi-functional sports- and play-grounds or recreational development. Many enterprises support children’s sports by buying necessary sports equipment and compensating for the costs related with the participation of young sportsmen in different national competitions. The final and principal goal here is to instill good healthy lifestyles in younger generation.
