The Federal Environmental, Industrial and Nuclear Supervision Service (Rostechnadzor) has granted JSC Concern Rosenergoatom (MOEX: REAK) a construction license for Unit 1 of Kursk NPP Phase II, the utility reports.

The work on the site will start after the construction permit for the unit is obtained from ROSATOM. Earlier, on May 31, the utility was granted a construction license for Kursk NPP Phase II from Rostechnadzor.

Kursk NPP Phase II is the replacement nuclear power plant for Kursk reactors, which are put out of operation. The Russia’s territorial planning scheme in the field of energy designed until 2030, which was approved by the Government of Russia in November 2013, envisages siting of four VVER-TOI reactors in the territory of Kursk Region. Each unit installed capacity at the future plant will be 1,255 GW.

The commissioning of first two reactors within Phase II is planned to be synchronized with the decommissioning of the existing reactors of the plant. The construction cost of Units 1 and 2 of Kursk NPP Phase II is estimated at RUB 225 billion until 2023.
